Tea is hot, healthy, and refreshing.

Not only is it loaded with beneficial nutrients but it also contains zero calories which means you can enjoy multiple cups each day without gaining weight. (unlike your English breakfast teas with milk)

Plus, there are plenty of varieties to choose from, so there’ll definitely be a tea out there that matches your taste buds. In this article I’ll be listing five of the best healthy teas you should try. I have also added information about Medicinal Mushroom Teas, and their benefits.

1. Black Tea

Black tea has a strong, distinctive flavour and can be enjoyed hot or cold and drank with or without milk. There are two main reasons why black tea is so good for you. First, it keeps you hydrated and protects against the harmful effects of dehydration. Second, it contains high levels of flavan-3-ols (a group of powerful phytonutrients that are also referred to as catechins or flavanols).

2. Ginger Tea

Ginger tea is a herbal infusion that utilizes the power of ginger to boost your health. It has a warm, spicy flavour and is a great choice if you want to clear your throat. Since it contains ginger, this herbal infusion has no flavan-3-ols but does supply your body with lots of copper, magnesium, manganese, potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C.

3. Green Tea

Green tea is probably the most popular tea in health and fitness circles and is regularly praised for its strong antioxidant content and its cancer-fighting properties. It has a light vegetal taste which is both unique and refreshing. Like black tea, green tea is very hydrating and is also packed full of flavan-3-ols.

4. Rooibos Tea

Rooibos is a herbal infusion that tastes similar to black tea but is slightly sweeter. It contains zero calories and because of this, it’s a great choice just before bed. In terms of nutrition, rooibos tea contains large amounts of flavan-3-ols, phenolic compounds and the antioxidants aspalathin and nothofagin.

5. White Tea

White tea is a lesser-known tea that is slowly gaining popularity in the Western world. It has a mild but fruity flavour and is a satisfying alternative to green tea. White tea comes from the same plant as black tea and green tea and contains the highest concentration of flavan-3-ols of all three.

The magical power of Medicinal Mushroom Teas

Medicinal teas for your immunity?

It is time you stop thinking about tea as the old fashioned shop bought product. Teas are powerful and you can use them as a daily tool for recovering gut health, reducing inflammation and so much more.

Once you got into a routine drinking all the above teas I have mentioned, I want you to try something new!

Medicinal Mushroom teas!

Mushroom teas are normally homemade. Made by infusing organic, highly medicinal dried mushrooms in hot water or dissolving shop bought mushroom powders in water. (you need to be careful where you source these from) Mushrooms are popular in traditional medicine they are used for treating cancers, promoting mental health, including relieving stress and anxiety, and improving digestion.

There is lot of rules around mushrooms. I quite one of my college, who is a mushroom expert and has written many books about medicinal mushrooms,  Dr. Andrew Weil MD

“In general, I advise against eating a lot of the familiar cultivated white or “button” mushrooms found on supermarket shelves throughout the United States. (Portobello and cremini mushrooms are the same species.) They are among a number of foods (including celery, peanuts, peanut products, and salted, pickled, or smoked foods) that contain natural carcinogens. We don’t know how dangerous these toxins are, but we do know that they do not occur in other mushrooms that offer great health benefits. For the maximum health benefits of mushrooms, I strongly advise against eating these or any other types of mushrooms raw, whether they’re wild or cultivated. If you’re going to eat them cook them well, at high temperatures, by sauteeing, broiling, or grilling. Heat breaks down many of the toxic constituents. “ To read full article please click here.

Top 5 medicinal mushroom teas to try:

To discover how to prepare these teas please purchase Dr Adrew Weils book.

  • Enoki:

    Benefits: anticancer and immune-enhancing effects.

  • Maitake: “hen of the woods”

According to Dr Andrew Weil MD, Maitake have anticancer, antiviral, and immune-system enhancing effects and may also help control both high blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

  • Reishi:

    Dr Weil says

“Strictly a medicinal mushroom, not a culinary one, reishi is woody, hard, and bitter. Like maitake and other related mushrooms species, reishi can improve immune function and inhibit the growth of some malignant tumors. It also shows significant anti-inflammatory effects, reduces allergic responsiveness, and protects the liver. You can buy dried, ground mushrooms and use them to make tea if you don’t mind the bitterness. Otherwise, buy reishi tablets, liquid extracts or capsules, which are available online and in health food stores and follow the recommended dosage. Take reishi every day for at least two months to see what it can do for you. “

  • Lion’s Mane:

Dr Weil believes “Mushroom health benefits can also come from this nontoxic medicinal and culinary mushroom, which is believed to stimulate nerve growth. It also may improve mild cognitive impairment. A Japanese study published in 2009 found that test scores of study participants who took Lion’s Mane in tablet form improved as over the course of the 16 weeks they took the pills but declined afterwards. The researchers concluded that Lion’s Mane mushrooms are effective in improving mild cognitive impairment.”

  • Turkey Tail:

Dr Weil quotes “ Turkey Tail is a purely medicinal mushroom with proven anticancer effects. Use extracts in liquid or capsule form. “
